Will not work with water toys

I bought this to fix a crack in my newly purchased fender. The leak was small and I tried to close it completely but the tape wouldn't hold and water was pouring through. I actually used up the entire roll and the water still broke through. Maybe I misunderstood what this tape is capable of? It's nice and thick, although I don't think it's designed to fix things like splashbacks and paddling pools.
