Minwax Water Based Helmsman Spar Urethane 1 Quart Gloss: Ultimate Protection for Wood Surfaces Review

I bought this in satin and it was packaged as satin. When applied it was very shiny. I had to open the door again. I have been repairing wood for many years and I know the difference between satin and gloss!

I've been using Minwax products for a long time and I was disappointed for the first time. The product says satin but the finish is glossy. The application of the product in my project was not as easy as in previous works. The formula has definitely changed and is not of the same quality.

ThermaTru Fiberglass Door and Side Panels: Cleaned with mineral spirits (paint thinner) using clean soft cotton shirts. I originally applied a patch of walnut gel to both sides of the door and then finished with a clear coat before installing. 2 coats of coxswain with a 2" silver-tipped wooster brush. Good guys. This is the one with A LITTLE (UV protection) SHADE IN IT. The water-based formula is 100% transparent, NOT THIS. So if you have light wood there will be a slight tint. (It's not overpowering, but if you like bright colors look for another wording.) I had to buy this to finish a fence that the guys at the hardware store swear was clean, but it didn't fit. Whichever one you use, be sure to fill it up, that's the moral of the story!

First off, other reviews claiming that this satin urethane is actually shiny are the result of consumer error. It must be mixed with any sealant. Stir very well, I recommend stirring constantly for at least 5 minutes, scraping down the sides and bottom. Stir occasionally while using the product. Part of the problem is that if you don't stir enough, the glitter will rise to the top. So when you start you have a high gloss. Wow! Big pressure! It's smooth and not too fast, with a fan-shaped spray pattern that makes it very comfortable to work with and gives good, even passes of the urethane coating.
