If you're looking for a processor and can spend up to $800, the Intel Core i5-3570K might be your best bet. The processor is capable of stable overclocking in air up to 4500 MHz. Normal mode with a multiplier of 42 (4200 MHz) and four cores loaded works for me. With only a single thread active, the multiplier of 44 is stable. With no workload and a fan speed of 1000 rpm, the processor runs at a temperature of 35 degrees. The temperature is 55 degrees, and the fan speed is 1600 rpm, at full load. I rarely put it under 100% load, but when I do, it handles the stress without a hitch.
