So many times I had to wash these two yarn and wooden toys intensively with an extra rinse to get rid of the chemical smell. First wash of Speed Queen with regular detergent - the chemical smell was still strong and I trimmed the excess yarn which smelled the most. Heavy extra rinsing, repeated rinsing with the same detergent and bleach - the chemical smell is still there. A third strong dish soap with added bleach and genuine Dawn dish soap finally got the smell out to the point where I couldn't smell it anymore. I don't want to write another word about this horrible experience other than to say never again!
