We had a white rope used as a decorative 'fence' along the top of a concrete retaining wall to remind people that, if they step over it, the first step would be about ten feet deep. A poplar grows next to the wall, constantly dripping with sap, and after a few years the white rope turned black. Finding replacements at our local Lowes and Home Depot stores proved impossible as both appeared to have gotten rid of pulleys that had to be cut during this pandemic and had not prepackaged the length of rope for me. Red accents are not a plus for me, but they are not particularly noticeable and not a minus even up close. Such a replacement should last for a few more years, even under poplar.
