Better than expected

Right out of the box, I really appreciated that this came with an air pump. I tried it and it works well enough. not as well as some other air pumps, but much better than inflating manually (which I also did). I also like that it came with a small repair kit, although thus far they have been durable and I haven't had any leaks. All of the items except the two pillows have multi-level valves that make it very easy to inflate and deflate each piece quickly and efficiently. Unfortunately, the pillows do not have this, and they are nearly impossible to inflate all the way. They are tiny, and the valves are relatively large, so they lose a lot of air by the time you can actually plug it. Once you do get everything inflated, the headboard slides into the main mattress via two rubber connectors (pictured). It actually stays in place quite well. The two floor stabilizers remind me of the inflatable toy boxing gloves, Sockem Boppers, so points for nostalgia there. There is a hole in one side and you can fit your hand in but the bottom side is closed. I suppose you could use them to store some belongings or to hold something in place so that it stays upright? They also work as intended to provide extra support to the mattress. The main mattress is about 50 inches long, 27 inches wide and 4.5 inches thick. While that is obviously quite short for most adults, it does fit perfectly into the back seat of my cars (Toyota Rav4 pictured). It obviously adds some nice cushion compared to sleeping on just the seat, but the real benefit to having this is that it extends the width of the seat out over the floor and all the way to the back of the two front seats. This makes it much easier to move around and get comfortable, and also allows you to lay diagonally to stretch out a bit more, even though most people won't be able to stretch out completely. I found that the two pillows were more useful propping up my shoulders and I used the headboard as my main pillow, just to use up as much room as possible. I'm 6'1" and I was actually able to get comfortable with it oriented in the back seat. While this set-up seems fine for children or animals (although I would be worried about claws puncturing things), I assumed that the better way to set this up for adults would be to fold down the back seats and orient it lengthwise into the trunk of the vehicle. Some cars fold down flat to create a bed better than others. The Rav4 doesn't quite get flat, so it ended up being a bit of an incline. Also, as you can see, the mattress didn't cover the whole space, so you end up being able to stretch out a bit more, but your feet dangle off the end. Because of the incline, I didn't find it very comfortable laying down on my back. However, turning onto my side, it was quite comfortable. So, if you are a side sleeper and like your head to be elevated compared to your feet, it's not a bad option. If you do have a car or truck where you can create a flatter bed area, this would probably work well, although you might be able to use a more traditional air mattress/inflatable sleeping pad/camp bed.Overall, my expectations for this were low, but it surpassed them by a wide margin. I wouldn't want to sleep like this every night, but if you do find yourself needing to sleep in your car in a pinch, this is certainly going to make things more comfortable. I definitely see it being useful for multi-day drives where you need to stop and sleep a little, and I could even see it being a decent alternative to a tent for short car camping trips, especially in inclement weather.

Pros
  • The air mattress can be inflated and deflated in minutes, making it a versatile and efficient travel accessory
Cons
  • The mattress may not provide enough support for people with joint pain or arthritis
