I had a muscle hole in my eye and had surgery and needed a pillow to lie face down on for a week, and this pillow hit the spot for me as it helped me rest my head on it at night. The pillow is soft and very comfortable to lie on. You could probably use it for sitting if you've had surgery and can't sit in hard chairs. Like I said, this is a great pillow.
