Review on TERRAMASTER F4-421 NAS: Powerful 4-Bay Cloud Storage with Apollo Quad Core 1.5GHz for Plex Media Server & Network Storage (Diskless) by Kuldip Roberts

I bought this dual NAS on March 29, 2019. The device was packed in a very strong cardboard box with pre-cut foam inserts to protect the device during shipping. sealed in a plastic bag. The kit included a smaller box with a power supply, 2 different sets of screws for mounting hard drives. Chrome screws for 3.5" drives and black screws for 2.5" drives such as SSDs which appear to have slightly different threads. Also included was a good screwdriver and an ethernet cable. Setting up the drive was easy. I simply followed the instructions that came with it, which said to download the TNAS-PC program from their website to set it up. I originally started with a 1.4TB Seagate Ironwolf RED NAS hard drive configured as a 'single' hard drive and worked fine. A week later I ordered a second identical 4TB Seagate Ironwolf RED NAS drive. When it arrived, I installed it in the 2nd free hard drive slot. The device has recognized the new disc. I was able to go into the control panel and reconfigure the NAS as a RAID 1 mirroring configuration which saves an identical copy of all data from the 1st drive to the 2nd hard drive for added protection against file loss. I had other NAS storage devices on my network but they weren't stable or reliable. This device is always there and very intuitive on how to change things from the control panel. It has a very quiet variable speed fan. There are many applications available for download on the device. For example PLEX to provide music and videos for you. I also use this drive to record my security cameras when they detect motion. The FTP server function that comes with this NAS is perfect for this. I created a user account to use the cameras and created a "shared folder" to store the videos. Each camera is stored in its own folder, making videos easy to find. Setting up the FTP function on the camera was a bit tricky, but after a call to the support team I managed it. I am very satisfied with this device. The price-performance ratio is great and in my opinion worth the 5 stars.
