The best cheese slicer for me

I've been using this type of cheese slicer for about 40 years. This is an updated version from the same company. It is imported from Germany. The old one was in perfect condition, but I also wanted a replacement new one. The blade has been slightly modified but looks sturdy. I bought several for Christmas gifts for friends and family. Although it's advertised as a slicer for sausages, salads etc, I'd say it really does best with cheese. You can slice wafer-thin if you like, or thicker if needed. The thickness wheel is useless to me as it's easier and faster for me to just lay the block of cheese on my back and push with my hand while I'm slicing. Great for those blocks of imported or homemade Costco cheese, although sometimes I have to split it in two to fit the slicer. While I'm mostly basing my review on the old slicer, I've tried the new one and it seems to work as well. Cheese lovers will likely love this simple and effective slicer. To answer some of the comments I would like to say remember that it is best to use it as a slicer for cheese, although sometimes I use it for thinly slicing onions or mushrooms. Just watch your fingers. Cut large blocks of cheese to a manageable size, wrap the rest the next day and cut into a smaller piece. With practice, you can get wafer-thin slices of cheese by learning to gently push the cheese toward the blade while watching your fingers. Cleaning has never been a problem. Buy a dish brush with a cleaning handle. Dry on a wire rack. I use it a few times a week and bought my second food slicer 2 years ago, expecting that my 40+ year old food slicer will one day break. I am currently using both.
