How often do you order something and get exactly what is described, exactly what you expected? This is an inexpensive, practical, very small open bookcase that looks pretty good for the price. Like almost 100% cheap RTA furniture (ready to assemble) these days, they are made from pressed particle board (MDF). It is simply unrealistic to expect that you can still buy inexpensive furniture made of real wood these days. If such a product is called wood, what distinguishes it from metal, plastic or glass? Once you accept that cheap furniture is made out of artificial materials, it really matters how well they do their job. make it acceptable and strong enough. This is much better than average on both counts. The MDF is more tightly compressed than some of the ones I've seen, some of them actually look like a sponge, this one is tighter. As for strength, it all depends on how you choose to hold the pieces together. Most of this furniture is characterized by the use of a pillar and cam mounting style, which I've always found cheap and flimsy. This is a simplified assembly method where the parts are bolted directly together. I always assume I'll never take RTA furniture apart again, so I always use some good wood glue when the pieces of wood come into contact, and after putting this bookshelf together I can tell you that it's surprisingly strong is. I love that they went the extra mile to include matching caps for a very finished look. I recommend tapping it lightly with a rubber mallet. They didn't have legs though, I added my own felt pads to avoid damaging the wooden floors. Here's the final piece of advice I learned from assembling a lot of furniture: never tighten anything until the whole piece is assembled. When you're done, lay the piece on a hard floor surface that you know is flat and roll it over each edge to even it out, then tighten everything down. So he stands straight and doesn't stagger on the floor. Please note this is a small item so please read the measurements carefully. Although this item can be returned (it's listed just below the price above), you don't want to spend an hour putting it together only to find it doesn't fit where you want it. For me this is exactly what I wanted, I have a place with very limited space that I wanted to make more useful than it was and it fits exactly as I expected. It's better than average price compared to other RTAs I've bought and I've bought a lot so I love it and would recommend it.
