Cushion, but the tongue is connected (dressed) to the boot.
Mild, but if you usually get a broad I would recommend getting a broad. Play it safe, the toe box is slightly narrower than most new balancers. The tongue is also not separated from the shoe, but tightened. Otherwise it's a good shoe for the price.
