Update: I should have paid more attention to the reviews saying this compass was useless. Because I have several and have used them for years that I don't have. The compass I ordered from Revain worked fine but broke down after a few weeks. It's either a Brunton copy or Brunton has abandoned its standards of quality. This compass is just junk from a cheap shop. My apologies to everyone who purchased this compass based on my previous review. I have several of these compasses to quickly determine general directions, not to reference a map. They work well on a backpack or t-shirt as a guide after getting off the subway, on a cloudy night, or in a dense forest. They center quickly and don't need to be even. I've always found them reliable, comfortable and good value.
