We bought two of these around the house for salt and pepper and they worked great for a while. However, the pepper mill began to crack at the bottom after about 6 months. Thought it might be coincidence, I bought a second one to replace once it broke (and spilled whole peppercorns all over my food). The second started breaking just like the first. I would attribute this to the increased strength of the pepper as the salt grinder had no issues. Correction? Simply replace the lower crossbar that holds the grinder with a piece of metal of the same shape. I took a small piece of scrap aluminum that I had and used my oscillating tool to give it a similar shape, drilled two holes and sanded it smooth. Spent 15 minutes and fixed it. I highly recommend doing this when you get it to avoid pepper in your food! Update: Something else broke inside, it's the part inside that holds the grinding wheel. They're too brittle, the plastic won't stand up to crushed peppers, just salt. Get something else if you need a matching set that works for salt and pepper.
