Bought Many Times - 2009 Toyota Highlander Installation Tips - Which Side Up?

I have a 2009 Toyota Highlander with 170,000 miles that I bought brand new so I have bought and replaced this particular filter many times. It's true that there are no up/down markings on which side goes up or down, but if you look at the white rubber gasket you'll see that one side has a distinct recessed channel running through the center of the gasket runs. This page is going under. On the same side you will also see two small rectangular indentations about 3/4 inch long going towards the front of the car. If you look at the front end of the filter housing where the filter sits on the housing you will see the corresponding rectangular shapes. Tips - the two 10mm screws will NOT come all the way out - they will remain in the plastic housing once fully unscrewed. The end opposite the two bolts has two externally threaded plastic bosses. You need to lift the side of the bolt about 2-3 inches and then these two tabs will slide out of their sockets. I have found that it will be difficult to insert the filter if you just try to lift and tilt it without pulling the plug tabs out. I also loosened the large wire clamps on the large hose that goes into this assembly to give the body a little slack. Just make sure the large 4β€³ diameter hose goes all the way back into the body (look at the bottom end too) and then retighten the clamp. Finally, double check the numerous small rubber air hoses. They are often drawn. or even snapped at the ends during this process. Make sure everything is in place and not torn.

Pros
  • Not cheap but decent
Cons
  • Nothing
