I used to buy this product in a large bottle but am now buying a small one to touch up. If your home is cold the mixture will be difficult to mix, so I recommend putting it in a saucepan of hot water to warm it up a bit so you can shake vigorously before using. You can apply with paper towels or a microfiber cloth, but be aware that once it gets oily, it will not be possible to completely wash it off the cloth. I usually prep the wood by pre-cleaning it with Murphy Oil Soap (like the one in the spray bottle). I usually put on a good coat and leave for an hour, come back and wipe off the excess. Be warned - if your part is water damaged with any raised areas it will WORSE. Therefore, avoid these damaged areas as the oil will make the damage even more visible. To be honest it gave a new life to so many second hand items and the tables didn't look the same afterwards. Highly recommended for any wood products that need love.
