Bought as a battery care helper for the late Schumacher. I have several cars, both 6 and 12 volt, and being able to use it for both voltages is attractive. However, unlike Schumacher, the 6V voltage selection is not automatic and must be done BEFORE connecting the battery, otherwise it will default to 12V and for some reason, even momentarily, the power will be cut when switched on again becomes. It starts by trying to charge with the standard 12 volts. I've proven this to myself multiple times by simply unplugging and plugging the charger back in. I think it will at best ruin your 6 volt battery if given enough time and at worst it will burn your house down. of course - it is not UL certified. It probably shouldn't be returned, and as far as I can tell it works great with 12v batteries, which I'll leave it with (marked "do not use on the 6v label").
