Review on Canon PowerShot G16: 12.1 MP CMOS Digital Camera with 5x Optical Zoom, 1080p Full-HD Video, and Wi-Fi Connectivity by Peter Hallett

I took some amazingly high quality photos and videos with this maximum resolution camera. The camera is heavy and large compared to typical soapboxes, but small enough to be used without the included neck strap so you don't look like a tourist. I like taking "stolen", natural photos of people on vacation, focusing carefully and getting the shot before they realize what I'm doing and tense up. This camera works brilliantly in low light - up to a point, of course. If you want to take romantic photos or videos of your girlfriend or boyfriend on the beach (or erotic photos in the bedroom), this is the perfect camera - except when you are right in the middle of it, it is not easy to hold the camera by holding the Operate buttons with one hand. Practice sneaking your fingers into the wrist strap, holding the camera, and pressing the top button with one hand. Set your video recording to the highest possible frame rate and resolution (1920 x 1080, 60 fps) and make sure you have two large, fast memory cards. The resulting video files are simply gigantic (most likely 60 frames per second is too much), but you'll appreciate the highest level of detail. You can always make copies of the original videos and then use Avidemux, Machete, MKVToolNix, PowerDirector or any other video editor to edit the copies and reduce them to much smaller H.264 MP4 files (without fear of destroying your originals). I find Canon's digital camera controls and software to be logical, but it still takes me some time to remember where I can change this or that setting. However, all Canon cameras appear to share the same controls and software. So if you already own another Canon camera, this one will feel right at home. This camera has a large screen on the back and can accommodate lens mounts on the front. You can attach an external flash to the top, or one of those remotes that let you put the camera down or mount it on a tripod and shoot from a distance without rocking the camera. For me, the camera is perfect the way it is and doesn't need anything extra. Oh, and the G16 has a Wi-Fi feature that I've never figured out how to use as it's unnecessarily complicated.
