Review on πŸ’¦ USA-Made HydroCheck HC8000T: Advanced Timed Sump Pump Controller by Kevin Griffin

It worked well then started to fail about two years after purchase

I bought this sensor in October 2016. Installation was easy, it worked as it should and worked well enough for a long time. At the end of May the sensor stopped working. First, the sensor turned on the pump several times, all water was pumped out and the pump did not turn off, causing pump cavitation and an alarm. After a few months, the sensor stopped turning the pump on when water entered. I checked the ground connection in the pan with a multimeter, checked the sensor for debris, everything was like the original installation. As a result, I had to buy a mechanical switch. The intermittent blackouts were too annoying and the audible cavitation alarm was something I imagined listening to that made me rush down to the basement to check out the pump. I'm frustrated because it looked like a great product until it failed. It would be difficult for me to suggest anyone else to buy this product mainly because the indicators that would lead me to diagnose the problem are not very helpful. If I had a better idea of why the pump keeps running after it's triggered, or why the signal doesn't start the pump when it's fully submerged, I might be able to fix that. Instead, I had to completely fix the installation, which I felt was a waste of time compared to buying a $30 float switch. Key Takeaway: It worked until it stopped and could ruin my pump or flood my basement. if I wasn't careful. The price is too high for 2 years before failure. Note that this is a new model, HC8000T. There seems to be a timing aspect to this model that the HC8000 lacks. That would be nice because the HC8000 monitors voltage and current changes in the power supply to determine when the pump should be turned off when a simple timing mechanism would have sufficed.

Pros
  • GOLS certification
Cons
  • Not bad
