Enough space for a basic knife set. I have 2 bonings, an 8", 10", 12", 12" paring knife and a bread knife plus steel. Everything fit, 1 slot left. This is not a severe case; without hard fiber inserts. The canvas is thick enough that I didn't miss it, meaning a thorough wash is possible when needed. I've only had it for a few weeks but so far so good. My first case lasted 2 years with daily use. I had to replace it because my 12 inch knife cut through the canvas. I would not recommend using this pouch for a full size 12 inch chef's knife. It's too short. My 12" roasting knife fits in well. I've decided to keep my 12" chef's knife at work or at home in the future.
