This is a beautiful wooden bookcase and at first I was very pleased. Then I actually tried putting the books on the shelves and found that the top shelf has a wooden ledge at the top that makes it impossible to put a book larger than a paperback novel on it. Yes, you can adjust the height of the shelf (admittedly, since the shelf brackets didn't fit well in the holes I had to hammer them in), but even if you do, no shelf will hold anything other than small paperback books. I ordered it specifically for a waiting room to store children's books, but neither picture books nor small toy boxes fit in, so it's useless.
