This review compares this new Flip Mino HD camera to the previous generation Flip and the new Vado HD from Creative Lab. In short, this is by far the best pocket video. the camera I had. A few improvements have been made over the old Flip model. The most obvious is the image quality. The video is very clear and comparable to some other full-size camcorders on the market. It also offers a very natural color balance with indoor lighting. Images are relatively stable, although I wouldn't expect much since there's no stabilizer function. The sound quality is okay. I think that's enough for a general recording. The Flip Share software has been greatly improved from the previous version. It has faster loading times and is more user-friendly. What I like is the email feature where you can just select the video and email it to your friends and family. It's convenient to do it in the Flip Share software without having to save the video and send it through your own email accounts. Compared to other molded plastic models, the device feels comfortably firm. One area I didn't really like is that the control buttons are actually touch-sensitive (with the exception of the record button) instead of the typical raised buttons. It took me quite a while to get used to it. Now a small comparison with the latest Vado HD from Creative Lab (latest model). Both models have the same capacity (8GB of storage), which is enough for 120 minutes of recording. Unfortunately, the Vado leaves a lot to be desired in terms of video quality and color balance. The shot I took under room lighting came out "yellowish" while the flip gives a much better natural color. The video also proved flimsy compared to the flip. The sound quality is pretty poor and doesn't produce enough volume. The Flip's charging time is also faster (3 hours for the Flip versus around 5 hours for the Vado). Vado video software is easier to use because you can directly download videos in AVI format (Flip uses WMA format). The Vado is currently about $100 cheaper than the Flip. But I'd rather pay the price for the quality the Flip has.
