While it doesn't exactly look or feel like wood, the color is consistent and the size stays consistent throughout the spool. I measured it at 1.75mm in various places in the spool. I know that's +0.04mm, but your printer won't notice a bit of difference, and if you think you could do better then go for it.The spool comes sealed in a bag with some of that silicone moisture abatement stuff that it says not to eat on the package. Which is a nice touch that you won't see on the spools you get from China. That sealed bag is then put inside of a small box the has the Hatchbox name on it, along with the type of plastice, it's diameter, and the color. Again, the things I printed didn't exactly feel like wood, or look the part; but I bet you could sand it down to make it more believable. Plus, in the end, it still has to be plastic in order for it to work in a 3D printer, so how close to wood can we realistically expect it to be. Not to say this is just brown PLA, which it clearly isn't. It's quite rough and holds bends a lot easier than normal PLA, which just tends to just bounce back into shape.For the price, Hatchbox has consistently outperformed the competition. The packaging is superior, or on par with, any other filaments on the market. The color and diameter is always consistent throughout the spool. I've yet to have a jam using their filaments, be it wood or any other color. All of this with the price point far below the competition, not to mention they offer prime shipping. Hatchbox has a customer for life.
