I think it may be old stock

I use 3M products regularly and think it may be old stock as the sides of the tape roll are sticky. Taped, usually indicative of old stock or tape damaged by excessive heat. The problem is that it picks up dust/dirt on the sides of the roll which can result in a jagged line edge. And with masking tape for detail, it's definitely NOT what you're looking for. However, in my situation it worked for its intended purpose. I masked the chrome spokes on the 1963 T-Bird hubcaps before painting so you wouldn't notice any jagged edges. But for the price, it shouldn't have any sticky edges.
