Bought before I knew about REAL essential oils. Now I know better. And it doesn't even smell like REAL sandalwood. Sorry folks, you can't get real Indian sandalwood (or any other type of real sandalwood) for 7.99. A 10ml bottle costs at least $45*, but the standard price ranges from $75-95. The best price I've found on Revain is $21.98 for a 5ml bottle of Australian Sandalwood (and that's a steal and I got $45 for the price of 10ml if I buy 2, to get 10ml, but most take $45 for 5ml). Indian is usually larger. Expensive Incidentally, this is one of the main signs that this oil is fake, if the price is too good to be true, then it usually is (too good to be true, that is!). The other is that there are no Latin species that identify it. Even the presence of it isn't proof for a fool, but the lack of it being stated on the label IS proof that it's a fake. I haven't seen an actual essential oil that doesn't have the plant's Latin name in it. You also want to see the country of origin and extraction method. BUT having this information on the label is still not enough. Lots of fakes have it too. What you want to see is a product GC/MS test report with a lot or lot number that matches that on your bottle. SPECIFICALLY FOR THIS TEST, if they cannot provide you with independent test results confirming the authenticity of their oil, then they most likely are not. Another win-win situation is when they sell almost all of their oils at the same price (or price level). Clary sage, thyme, and sandalwood do NOT cost the same when it is an actual essential oil. If all oils are the same color and viscosity (thickness), this is another serious warning sign. There are three types of sandalwood: Indian (Santalum Album), Australian (Santalum Spicatum), and Hawaiian (Santalum Paniculatum), with Australian being the cheapest and Hawaiian being the cheapest. I personally think Australians and Hawaii smell better, but to each their own. In fact, most Indian sandalwood sold is also grown in Australia (which is not the same as Australian sandalwood). The older the tree, the better the oil, and much of what is produced today is made from young trees. But that's not here or there with this brand of sandalwood oil. It might be an oil, and it might be their interpretation of sandalwood, but it's NOT Indian sandalwood essential oil (Santalum Album), and it doesn't smell like it at all. The positive reviews are from people who don't know how real things should smell. I bought a few oils from several cheaper companies (including this one) and had to go back and retract some reviews for giving them good reviews until I figured out what worked and what didn't. Because of this I was forced to leave this review lest others believe this is legit or a good deal. The only positive thing I can say is that this company stands behind the money back guarantee. If you've bought this and found, like me, that this isn't a real deal, write them and they should refund your money (within 30 days, I can't say longer.) At least that's how they did it. There is one excellent customer service. Just remember, the old adage is true, you get what you pay for. Here the price is nothing and the product is nothing. At least nothing is real. Note. Revain sells a range of brands from legitimate essential oil sellers and you don't have to pay MLM prices either. Be careful if it isn't the company you are buying from directly through Revain, Aura Cacia for example is not sold at Revain but you may find their brand sold by other retailers and many have found that they are fake. I don't work for any of the companies mentioned, nobody paid me or gave me anything, I just want to share what I've learned to help others not to waste time, products and money I wasted. Here's what I found on Revain as a genuine essential oil seller: (in alphabetical order) Garden of Eden, Miracle Botanicals & Plant Therapy, and Rocky Mountain. Other good brands that may or may not be found here but not sold here include Ananda Apothecary, Aura Cacia, Eden Botanicals, Hopewell Essential Oils, Mountain Rose Herbs, Pompeii Street Organics, and Simpler Botanicals. Brands to avoid (other than these, no special order): ArOmis, EcoOris, Laguna Moon, Woolzies, Majestic, RA, Gya, Artizen, Ola Prima, Sun, Sheer Essence, Positive Essence, etc. whatever basically the same price has offer. (and yes, I hate to admit it, I have been tricked into buying almost every brand listed). so I don't recommend taking the risk. I also know that Healing Solutions is the parent company of Ola Prima so this is a black swipe on my book as I know from personal experience that Ola Prima is adulterated (it contains a carrier oil). I personally wouldn't recommend DoTerra & Young Living either because they are MLM marketing companies and there are multiple independent tests showing some YL oils are fake. Even if they are genuine, there is no point in paying for an overpriced item, genuine or not. Just my humble opinion on what it's worth, hopefully it helps point you in the right direction so you understand what you're getting, what to look out for and what to avoid. If you don't care if it's real oil or not and you just want a nice smelling oil, then buy "fragrance" oils - they have amazing synthetics if you don't mind using mostly perfume . It will not be therapeutic except for a pleasant smell.
