I have a 25 year old split fridge freezer that I keep in a detached garage. In spring and fall, the weather is so cool that the fridge won't run the freezer to provide colder air. Because the refrigerator doesn't need cold air, the freezer itself doesn't produce cold air; so everything in the freezer spoils. I was considering buying a new device specifically for outdoor use, but then I read about my decision. Basically, it's a small heating element that you place next to the temperature control knob in your fridge. It "tricks" the sensor into believing that the refrigerator is warmer than it actually is. As a result, the refrigerator requests a supply of cold air from the freezer, which then supplies cold air to the freezer itself. Although my fridge freezer was not listed as compatible with this unit, I took the risk. Work. It was like this. It is flexible enough to be bent or punched into holes in the backing to fit over plastic pegs. The installation took all of 30 minutes. I should have done that 10 years ago.
