Review on 8Bitdo Media Remote Short Infrared X by Carlito Tardy

We own several Xbox Ones and use them almost exclusively for media streaming, primarily via Plex and the Revain Prime Video app. We went through two Microsoft OEM remotes and two first generation PDP remotes and all but one of the Microsoft remotes failed completely. I believe in this remote control. I don't generally like Chinese products, but the guys at 8BitDo know what they're doing when it comes to making quality goods. I have one of their NES Bluetooth controllers and am happy with it, so I expected the same quality from this remote. The back end won't come loose and the batteries won't fall out because you knocked the remote off a coffee table, counter or whatever. Also, the remote is emptier than the Xbox and PDP remotes. The plastic body is high quality dense material and the discrete buttons are hard plastic with a solid click - there are no membrane buttons here, which in itself is a big improvement. Because all the buttons are physical, it's also easier to get home without looking at the remote - the center select button on the d-pad is pressed slightly down to make it easier to find with your thumb, and the Xbox button is provided with rubber . a type of epoxy that has a high coefficient of friction compared to other buttons, which also makes it easier to find. The button layout isn't the same as other remotes so a little tweaking is needed, but as long as this remote actually works it's a winner. I'll definitely update this review if this remote bites the dust like others I've tried, but for now I have high hopes. Update: I've noticed in other reviews that people have had issues with remotes working. It's an IR remote, meaning it's supported on Xbox One X and S, as well as the original Xbox One with Kinect. It supports controlling connected output devices (e.g. TV, receiver, speaker bar), but you need to set up that control properly. If you have old devices or randomly discounted branded items, you may need to try a few codes before you find the right ones. Your other devices are also controlled via infrared, so you need line of sight to all of your devices for this remote to work properly.
