I love the design - The Kuat lockout kit's cables tuck into the locking arms when not in use and can then be pulled out to pass through guide the bike frame and lock itself. The hitch locking pin prevents the strut from being removed from the vehicle's hitch receptacle. Four stars isn't really a high enough rating. I would give 4-1/2 stars if I could. Just can't give it 5 stars, 100% positive rating. The cables are secured to the locking arms with a plastic tie and a 3/8" thick nut and bolt. The nut is built into the ring completely inaccessible and the bolt head has an unusual star shape that can only be rotated with the special tool provided So the weak link is the plastic collar, I have no idea how much force it would take or how hard it would be to break or smash that part to disconnect the cable from the rack and steal a bike (or two). In fact, these parts can be strong enough to make it easier to use giant bolt cutters to cut 1/2" braided steel cable - still a very powerful deterrent. The only thing to worry about is that the wheels are vulnerable - you could remove the wheels and leave the frame tied to the kuat post my wheels are relatively cheap but s they still cost a few hundred dollars to replace. For some, the price of a wheelset can easily exceed $1,000. Solution - On those rare occasions when I need to leave my bike(s) locked in a Kuat Rack for a longer period of time in a public place, or even for a shorter period of time in a place I'm less comfortable with , I leave a pair of 1/2 inch x 6 foot cable locks in my car so I can secure the wheels to the Kuat frame and cable loop. No locking system is completely impenetrable, but thanks to the great design, ease of use and in most situations where I want to lock my bike(s) to the car/trunk, I am very happy with my Kuat locking system.
