The combination of brackets and thumbscrews interact and prevent any chance of stability. Very confused in 4-5 star reviews. Shown: The laptop surface mount snaps freely into place and slides into a larger bracket welded to the stand. The thumbscrew rests against a notch (not a hole) in the top bracket when tightened, pushing the two brackets apart. This creates a rocking effect that tilts the tightened knurled screw back and forth. The thumbscrew should be screwed into both brackets and instead pull the top bracket to the bottom bracket. As it is: The stand cannot provide a stable surface. Back immediately.
