Our family loves this gadget! I used to place my cherries on a cooling rack (rack) in a baking sheet and squeeze the pit out with a stiff straw. It took hours to get working and I (and everything around me) was covered in red spatter. Now all we have to do is separate the cherries from the stems, place them stems up (I tell my kids to point the cherries toward the ceiling), then press them down and voila, done. I made 2 pounds of cherries in a few minutes. Wonderful! My kids love making it for me too and my 5 year old taught me how to use it properly. When I pressed, I hit it like a stapler, and even though the pit came out, it was still clinging to the cherry (it's still very easy to pick up the tray and pull out the stragglers). My 5 year old walks in and pushes SLOWLY and gently (I'm starting to lose my patience). I start explaining how I do it, using more muscles etc as he lifts the tray and shows all 4 holes completely removed. The?! So now we're all doing it nice and slow and careful and for the most part all 4 are crashing. I will say that although it is disassembled for cleaning, the top is not disassembled. I can still clean it but I want the top to come apart to clean the metal tips. However, I highly recommend this item.
