Review on πŸ’‘ Canon PowerShot S100 Silver: 12.1 MP Digital Camera with 5x Wide Angle Optical Image Stabilized Zoom - Expert Review & Best Price by Yvette Gonzalez

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Lots of flexibility. Reasonable price.

Pros: Small (but not tiny); usually simple Canon controls; easy to set up; many available settings; high-quality point-and-shoot photos. Flexible options from automatic to fully manual. Low light opportunities are better than small soap dishes. Good manual (electronic, no paper). Many inexpensive cases are available. Cons: Poor low-light capability (but neither camera lives up to its claims). Neutral: Reliable since purchase on Black Friday 2012. bad deal). A pocket camera only if you have big bags and are willing to expose an expensive (point and shoot) camera to pocket lint and what you carry around. Until recently, the S100 was considered an essential tool for point-and-shoot professionals due to its portability, larger sensor (for point-and-shoot) and the ability to shoot in full manual mode. The Sony RX100, three times the price, seems to have replaced the Canon S100 as a premium point-and-shoot model. what you need and what you will use. Many people shop too much, believing that the newest will solve all their problems. They fool themselves into taking the time to digest the manual and learn the complicated camera controls. But they quickly realize that their cameras are too heavy and complex for everyday use. More people are frustrated by the complexity of their camera than suffocated by its limitations. If you rarely change your current camera's settings from automatic and don't want to read technical manuals, stick with the $100 point-and-shoot mode. If you need something more versatile that won't break the bank and are willing to take the time to read the manual to understand the benefits of a complex camera, the Canon S100 is a very good choice. It will do a lot more than most hobbyists need. And now that it's been on sale for a while, its price has dropped to $300 or less, a reasonable level.
