Review on Ford FL3Z-99406A10-A Shock Assembly: Genuine Tailgate Support at its Finest by Chad Moser

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Easy installation if you are mechanically inclined.

A highly FUNCTIONAL addition to the tailgate of my new 2020 Ford F-150 XLT Pickup! back door. which makes the tailgate quite heavy overall. without this unit. when opening and releasing. My back door slammed. I NEED TO FIX THIS ASAP! Be sure to unplug the backup camera cable from under the truck first. Then have another person help you remove and reinstall the tailgate. This is a job for 2 people. (2) Torx head screws in right hinge plate RED Factory Loctited. I used my heat gun to soften the Loctite on the torx screws before removing them. It is necessary. Proceed carefully (in the area of the rear light attachment) so as not to damage the paintwork. Once the heat softens the red Loctite on each bolt. Use a #50 Torx bit and a 3/8 ratchet wrench to remove the screws. Install the new hinge plate using the (2) screws you removed from the original hinge plate. Use red Loctite on the screws. Align the new pivot plate very carefully and torque each bolt to (41) ft-lbs. Simply install the new damper onto the factory installed lower and upper pivot balls. Install the taillight assembly with a wizard. Reinstall tailgate. Then don't forget to reconnect the camera harness under the truck. Done + Super smooth sliding tailgate when opening! This is the same Ford OEM unit that is factory installed on more expensive models. That's waaay superior to the aftermarket versions. This is a GREAT device at a very FAIR price!
