TLDR: Watch the video, study, expect them to stretch/break and buy them in person from the experts. I started my search for shoes, like most 20-year-olds, with a Google search. What is the best brand, the best model, the best value for money? blah blah. Based on reviews from popular climbing websites and vlogs, I found that tarantulas and tarantulas are among the best for beginners. I also chose them because as far as I could tell they were at least a little low, which would be helpful as I progress and become an advanced climber. For reference, I bought these shoes when I was only climbing V0 boulders and 5.4, 5.5 top pitch routes. I sincerely recommend going to the store to buy shoes as my biggest problem was finding the right size. First, I barely knew what to look for in terms of fit and I had to figure it out through research and people's tweets. Even then, with half sizes so close together, I had a hard time figuring out what was perfect. I found a suitable fit (after ordering 6 pairs). I have very typical, average feet. Not too wide, but not too narrow either. My outdoor shoes are usually around 8.5. The shoes I ended up keeping were 39.5. At first they fit me very well. I mean. Serious. It was definitely uncomfortable. But that's exactly how they should coincide at first. I knew they would loosen and stretch over time and after about 4 sessions they fitted really well. I was looking for a size that would bend my toes a little. And these and the 40s made it. Many reviewers commented that their shoes would have stretched over time, so I was a bit wary of the 40's even though they were more comfortable. In the end I'm very glad I went for the slimmer fit because they shrink. I also tried the 39s but they were WAY small. ) and just don't know much of what they're talking about. They talk about how comfortable the shoes are and how easy it is to stand in them and be safe. This is bad. You don't want to put yourself in the shoes of these people. you want to level up You want the entire foot to be connected to the shoe as one unit, with the toes pressed tightly together, forming the strongest point to stand on. They should be nice and comfortable, but not too small. For me these are a great first pair and I am sure you will love them too!
