I hate to trample on the product but when I got 2 of these SSDs with the same issue I had to let people know. I spent the better part of two days troubleshooting and researching the issue and couldn't find a solution. Phone support is almost non-existent (3 hours a day, Mon) so I started a ticket. The reply was polite and tactful, but the only suggestion was to see if I tried a different cable. Pooh! Two drives, two cables, 2 Thunderbolt/USB-C ports and 4 USB 3.0 ports, and still no solution! [I should note that other consumers have had reliability issues with other manufacturers' SSDs, but all of my older (USB 3.0) SSDs work fine]. over 900MB/s via the Thunderbolt connection, but knowing that some SSDs get hot and overheating, I let the Blackmagic run for about 10 minutes. The ride almost didn't feel warm! I was really happy! Then, towards the end, it started: The maximum write speed dropped from 900 MB/s to 450, then there were problems even reaching 450. I stopped the test and let it rest for a while. I've never been hot, but I still took a break! After 5 minutes I started again and everything was as before. Started out well but got worse; and this time it went faster and the write speed went down to 2. Yes, 2MB/s! Not knowing what was going on, I removed the drive, unplugged it from my computer, and plugged it back into the USB 3.0 port. This port delivered 400 MB/s as expected, but writing problems soon arose again! I aborted the test, reconnected to the USB-C (Thunderbolt Hole) and started copying some of my video files off the hard drive. Started great, then got stuck, stopped copying and gave a -50 error (whatever it was). I recreated the same folder, told the finder to skip duplicates, and it started copying again. for some time. This start-stop methodology lasted about 56GB before I got fed up and decided to reformat to AFPS. I thought AFPS was designed for SSDs so it should help. Here #1 bit the dust. By now the drive was so bad that Disk Utility couldn't unmount it for a first-aid check or a new format. Then the drive got really nasty and didn't allow the OS to reboot. I let it sit and waited for about 30 minutes for it to restart to see if it would eventually let go, but all it did was heat up. So; He didn't do anything he was supposed to do, but he felt hot. That's when I decided not to give him any more opportunities to repent. I started the return process and Revane kindly offered to ship disk #2 for free, which I agreed to (especially since my POS disk had magically gone up $70 in price). in 3 days). When Disc 2 arrived I decided the Rocket Pro needed a thorough test as the first gave me no confidence in their performance. Using Finder for file transfer and Blackmagic for general testing, I found #2 just as bad as #1, but this time I was able to provide first aid before the drive fell over and died. Strangely, every time I ran First Aid, it showed the same multiple errors that First Aid fixed in the previous cycle before the drive was returned to me as repaired. After four consecutive errors, I exited Disk Utility and shortly thereafter the drive stopped working. I'm done with it! So, in conclusion, if you buy one of these I recommend getting it direct from Revain as you know it's legit and if it fails they will pick it up. Also, I recommend trying a few, a few file transfers when you first get it to see if you have a good ride. If you have large video files, these are also worth trying. If your drive is the same as mine, you will get error messages and a partial transfer. And he can die too. I personally don't want to go with disc #3, although Revane did offer to send another one. I'll just ship two discs back when my local UPS shop opens. Since there are so many new external SSDs with issues, it's hard to say which one is good. Sabrent has been making great products for a number of years so maybe it's just a coincidence but 2 in a row? Hard to understand. This whole mess is pretty weird as most internal SSDs used in external ones get rave reviews. Something is wrong with the USB 3.1v2 interface in the case. Much luck!
