Review on Progressive Industries EMSLCHW30 Surge Protector by Alan Estell

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Good gear, just needs a little know-how.

I installed it myself without any problems. It's not rocket science, but you have to be careful. The clues and markings on the inside of the case are enough to get everything in place, but they're not "for dummies". If you understand what this device does and how electricity works in your RV, there will be no problems. If you are new to connecting 120V AC appliances, consider having someone more experienced install it. I don't think this is mentioned anywhere in the description, but you can change the reading direction in 90 degree increments by mounting the display module in one of 4 positions inside the case. This gives you more options for placing the display conveniently and still being able to read it. My RV has been in the workshop since installation, but it has already done its job: the RV was plugged into a 240V outlet via a typical 50A to 30A converter, and one of the 120V -Legs of this outlet dropped to 5V due to a communication problem. The surge protector disconnected the RV from shore power and displayed an error that allowed me to quickly identify the problem without damaging my expensive inverter/charger. I was happy! The more electronics you have in your setup, the more you have to be one of them. Protect your gear!
