From the surface of the round charger The device to the end of the fork is about 18.25 inches long. So the cable isn't too long, but I like that it's on the shorter side. When you first plug it into the wall, all 16 LEDs will flash green. When the batteries are charging, the red LEDs light up and when charging is complete, the red LEDs change to green. It is suitable for both AAA and AA batteries. I'm not sure if the round design is more compact than the rectangular one, but it's handy that I only have to use one outlet to charge up to 16 batteries.
