I bought some winter tires because the vendor recommended them. I took it and have no regrets; it's in great condition and I haven't had a single skid in the past three years, even when driving rather quickly. I felt no shame in getting where I needed to go, even if the road wasn't cleaned. Only one of the four wheels' 20,000 or so miles of use resulted in a lost spike over the course of three years. Okay, so this is what most people prefer.
