Revainrating 5 out of 5

Worth the premium price!

Overall I award 4.5 stars. All in all, the idea is ingenious and works. The slight downgrade is due to minor quality control issues as well as fit and finish. The thickness of the metal used makes it difficult to bend and shape the details of the structure. This introduces minor inconsistencies in the final product without affecting the actual function. The finish is nice, although relatively easy to damage. I'd be happy with the aluminum version too, because that thing is pretty damn heavy on its own. With all that said, when it comes to sheer functionality, it gets 5 out of 5. And I rated it accordingly. My car is a 2013 BMW X5 35d. This is a 3.0 liter inline 6 cylinder turbo diesel version of the car. The vehicle is a one-piece SAV, so it tends to transmit a lot of vibration and shock into the cabin when towing, as basically everything is connected. It's not like a truck-style SUV, which tends to isolate passengers from almost everything. This ball mount effectively isolates the vast majority of vibration and shock that would normally be transmitted to a car, making the towing process much less noisy and stressful. The previous towing with the camp build was grueling at best. You felt every bump, rattle and vibration of the trailer. I've towed nearly 5,000 pounds with this ball hitch and checked the rear view often to make sure the trailer was still behind the car. because it was so quiet and vibration-free. I'd say my first impression is that it's worth the extra cost just for the reduction in noise and vibration. I can't say anything about durability yet as I've only towed once with this ball mount. I can't say that it saved me fuel and it really can't be said that it saved tire wear like the manufacturer claims. However, I do not dispute the claims. Unfortunately, a by-product of this product's smooth ride was the fact that I went faster than usual when towing, as the lack of noise provides a level of comfort and confidence not found in a standard ball mount. This is worth noting as the ticket isn't fun.
