I bought this modem router for our twins' college apartment. I wanted it to be compatible with their state of the art laptops required by their engineering school and I liked the idea of a cable modem and router combo for convenience. Initially I had some setup issues during setup because I didn't "factory reset" the device. Since it's been used before (I bought it used from Revain.com for a great price), the previous owner set up a unique username and password and didn't tell me what they were. But after I factory reset the box, the initial setup went well and smoothly. After setup, one of my son's laptops would disconnect from the internet intermittently, which was very frustrating. The connection came and went, and when it stopped, you saw a yellow exclamation mark on the Internet icon in the laptop screen's taskbar in the lower-right corner. But then the laptop just automatically reconnected to the internet and then the random disconnection process started again. Another son's laptop lost connection to a wireless HP Officejet printer. In his case, we would have to keep restarting the huge drivers in his laptop to reconnect, and then the problem would randomly reappear. But his laptop (identical in model, hardware, and specs to the other son's laptop) never lost connection to the internet. There were many separate internet networks active in the same building and nearby, many operating on the same WiFi channels. At our location these are usually channels 11 and 6. Our own modem router uses channel 11 by default. This Arris modem router has a feature if you bring up a program in the modem router to fine-tune it, which allows you to scan your channels around and allows it you to choose a unique default channel other than 11, 6, or 1. We chose channel 9 because no one else used that channel. After that, the individual problems experienced by each of the two laptops disappeared and the laptops were now continuously connected to the internet and printer without interruption. Study our environment well first, and then adjust the working WiFi channel to avoid competing channel traffic from the surrounding networks at our location. Once we did that, the internet connection and disconnected printer issues were gone. Setup with the Comcast internet cable was simple and straightforward, and we had no problem activating this modem router using the Comcast Xfinity setup utility. It was easy and automatic, and now we're happy with the Arris SBG6782-AC modem router!
