20 micron filters were stored for 10-12 weeks and then replaced. The filter was dark, but the weight was minimal. After running 5 microns for 6 weeks the water pressure dropped so we replaced it. The filter was very dark and after 10 weeks weighed twice as much as a 20 micron filter. So my conclusion is that a 5 micron filter is much better (weight and color) and will extend the life of my softener, water heater and faucets. We swap out the filter after 4 weeks so the water pressure isn't affected (at this price it's a no-brainer). Delivery took a day even though we live in a remote area. Stick to Pentek or other well-known brands.
