***UPDATE*** Changed from 3 to 4 stars. The company contacted me and said the mandolin must be defective so they sent me a new one. I definitely appreciate her active attitude. I've used it twice now and it cuts my apples much, much better. I prepared a sausage tray and cucumber tea sandwiches. The machine worked great. I haven't tried the waffle frying feature yet, but the main reason I bought this particular model was that it offered multiple thicknesses and cut types. And PLEASE wear protective gear when using this device. I always do, except once when I was in a hurry. Bad move. I cut off part of my fingertip and press the e. Old Review: Finally I was able to use this item in making apple chips. It doesn't cut as smoothly as I expected and even leaves weird ridges on the apples. I'm very careful with the blade, but I've noticed that it has a few nicks and I'm wondering if that's why it cuts as smoothly as it should. Also, when you slide the food back up to make a new slice, there is a small edge on the tier where small pieces of food can get stuck and mess up the back and forth movement of the slice. The unit feels solid and I love the different thickness settings and the ability to make waffle fries. (which I haven't done yet) I'm a little disappointed with this item, but I'll try my best.
