I have an acrylic aquarium with some nasty algae that are difficult to remove and this was taken care of with a plastic nozzle. The magnet is very strong, it's so strong that you need 2 hands to move it, it's not for weak hands, it takes a lot of strength to move it, but it does the job perfectly and is exactly what I need. If sand gets inside, the tank will be scratched. Also, it can still scratch the tank, but you won't notice that in the water. I have no plans to resell my aquarium so I don't care how dry it looks, it's more important for me to get rid of those damn algae and keep them out, my water is in very good shape now so I won't be doing it . I have to use it just as often but it really helped me when I needed it and I'm glad I got it.
