First purchased flameless candles Smtyle. When I needed more of different heights I decided to order an Aku Tonpa for comparison as the descriptions were almost the same. I liked the look of Aku Tonpa a little more. The shorter candle in the photo is Smtyle, the longer one is Aku Tonpa. Both have almost the same design with almost the same remote controls that contain the same functions. The difference is in the exterior design and color. Aku Tonpa has that melted look while Smtyle doesn't have that "used" look. However, the waxy surface of Aku Tonpa is a slightly more yellowed ivory color and the flames are definitely more yellow than Smtyle. It is difficult to convey the nuances of color in photographs. Both work as described. The timer function is highly appreciated. Both remote controls control both brands. The smtyle color "Flame" corresponds more to my personal preference, because I find it a bit more realistic. The Aku-Tonpa's flames are much yellower than hers, with a slight peach-orange tinge. Both are perfectly acceptable and I enjoyed them. I originally received a candle that was damaged in the sense that the center had fallen into the body of the candle, but the return was very quick, easy and hassle free. However, the replacement had such a narrow battery compartment that I practically had to put batteries in it. I would return them for another replacement but I was too busy. It seems to me that this is a slightly cheaper product. Hence the 3 star rating.
