Absolutely impossible to customize

The concept is great but the device is completely useless. I tried following the installation instructions with two different Android phones and an iPhone. Poor included instructions and weak web resources didn't quite match the steps the device went through. I got to the point where the monitor said it was monitoring, but the RemoteLync app never recognized that there was a device in that location, and testing with a smoke detector never generated any alerts. Yes, I opened port 8080 on my wireless router. Really the only suggested solution! After waiting over 20 minutes I finally got through to someone from Kidde Technical Support and was told they would call me back. I'm still waiting - two weeks? A detailed email to Kidde technical support about my problems went unanswered.
