If you have a desk with a metal wood frame, you will need a small block of wood. The instructions say use a piece of wood or a book. don't use the book. After finding a block of wood and sanding it to match the height of the edge of my frame to the underside of the wood, I was finally able to clamp it securely using the same pressure from below. You want the clamp cup to have a flat surface underneath to tighten, modern tables have the frame rails close to the edge and it will not be stable unless there is an extra block next to the rail. It works great and holds my old heavy monitor perfectly. My only issue is the wood block issue for some of the tables and it doesn't go up as high as I thought it would. I wanted to use my laptop underneath but my laptop screen is still higher than the bottom of my monitor. Otherwise it's well done and I would recommend it.
