If like me you change the oil in your outboard yourself, this little pump could be your ticket to making it easier. Because I keep my boat on the lake on a skid lift (not a trailer) I can only do limited maintenance myself - oil and filter changes, fuel filters, etc.). Since it is almost impossible to drain the oil from the crankcase by gravity over water, these pumps allow you to pump out used oil through the dipstick hole and then pour in new oil. Add extra plastic tubing to the suction side as the power terminal wires that power the pump are too short to reach my battery. It was annoying. When I turned it on it dutifully began sucking up over 5 liters of old oil and pumping it into my waste containers, albeit quite slowly. The process took about 30 minutes, not counting the time it took me to "warm up" the old oil by running the engine for a while as recommended. Meanwhile, the pump itself got VERY hot; so much so that I stopped it a few times for fear it would burn. In the end, he did his job: time will tell whether he will continue to do this at the next oil change. So don't expect quality construction and speed from a professional shop, but for a once-a-year oil change, this might be all you need.
