Review on ASUS XG248Q 23.8" Adaptive Esports Monitor - Full HD 1920x1080, 240Hz, Blue Color, Flicker-Free, Adaptive Sync Support by David Suite

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Bought from B&H a few months ago (10/10)

I've been using this monitor since December 2018. I LOVE IT. I mainly used it for Overwatch. General: 1) VESA mounting was very easy and the monitor isn't too heavy, but I wouldn't say it's light! 2) All USB ports worked 3) Freesync range works as advertised (I'm using an AMD GPU) Let's look at some of the bad ones first. Cons: 1) Screen flickering (fixed/no longer an issue) I had some issues with occasional screen flickering (you can find such issues on Google), but never while gaming, only in a program like Chrome. I think this issue was a driver issue as I haven't had a single issue since updating my AMD graphics drivers a while ago. This monitor had problems logging in and out of many games. Sometimes the monitor would run indefinitely and eventually start, but other times it would say "Signal Lost" or "No Input Detected" and wouldn't work until: a) I turned the monitor off/on OR if it still didn't work b ) Disconnect and reconnect the display port cable from my GPU. I also believe this alternate tab issue was driver related because I haven't changed anything since then other than updating my AMD GPU drivers so it was annoying at the time but there are NO issues now but that doesn't mean you not need to beware of them. 3) Still a TN panel, not comparable to an IPS panel. It's just not for people who want everything to look "good" or "painted just right". ' or 'professionally calibrated'. It's better than some rivals that fall into the same categories but still looks washed out compared to IPS. It's not enough that I can't enjoy it, plus I mostly play OW which is so fast paced and colorful anyway that I never really think about it. 4) ELMB reduces the brightness significantly. I recognized the following. right away. The ELMB mode, which you can toggle on and off (at any refresh rate), causing the monitor's backlight to flicker at 240Hz, slightly reduces the overall brightness. If you find yourself in lighting conditions that are terrible for viewing content on the screen, you may be frustrated with how dim the screen gets when ELMB is on. It doesn't bother me because I have decent lighting to avoid this kind of problem. and the benefits of blur reduction far outweigh how much I appreciate screen brightness. Now for the GOOD THINGS! Pros: 1) With 9700k, Vega 64 and certain video settings, I'm averaging 240+ fps in OW and using ELMB mode (btw I can't use ELMB mode at the same time as Freesync). I've NEVER experienced anything more fluid and responsive than playing a game (OW in this case) at 240+ fps while using ELMB. I AM SERIOUS. I came with HP Omen 144Hz and no doubt you can 100% SEE and FEEL the difference between 144Hz and 240Hz. 2) The size (23.8 inches) is perfect for high ppi at 1080p! 3) Overall colors and panel look much better than my Omen 144hz (also TN panel). The blacks and contrast are better and I would also say that the brightness is also higher (I don't remember the Omen ATM specs). good in high frame rate games that require fast response (most FPS games) then you will benefit a lot from that high refresh rate, low response time and reduced monitor blur. The blur reduction along with 240Hz makes it so easy to spot fast-paced action and keep an eye on everything around you thanks to the clear and fluid visuals and feel. To be honest, not a day goes by that I play this that I'm not thrilled with this purchase. I would honestly say it ruined me forever and I was once a 30fps console boy. The price difference between this monitor and other high quality 240Hz monitors makes it a much better value!
