because it was 1) a new product, not a conversion 2) made according to OEM specifications and my OEM has run 410,000 miles 3) has many good ratings 4) Cheap compared to other brands. The delivery was fast, it arrived in 2 days. Appearance and features are good. I've run it several times since I installed it, it works. There was one major issue that could have broken the deal had I bought it locally and returning it was as quick and easy as running to the parts store. There are two wires attached, one is screwed and the other is clamped. After installation, a clamped wire will not "break"; it will not be safe. I tried several times before concluding that I had somehow damaged the pigtail terminal during the removal/installation process. This is of course a serious problem because no matter how well made everything else is, if the cable doesn't stay in your car your car won't start. I grabbed the old starter and the wire snapped onto it tightly, so the problem was with the new part. Upon closer inspection, it turned out that there is a rounded "hump" on the top of the black housing where the wire enters, which holds the end of the pigtail in place. This feature was significantly less on the new part than the OEM, so this is a manufacturer or designer error. It's probably not a permanent downside, otherwise we'll likely see more posts like this in reviews. IDK if it's a batch issue, right? However, this deficiency is serious; If the wire is not fastened, it will fail over time and lose contact, causing it to fail to start. I need my car tomorrow, returning and reshipping is not an attractive option for essential car parts. I put the connection together (see photo). IDK how long this will work, I am very disappointed and unhappy with the situation. I'm not happy about "faking" a new part to make it work. Using a local parts store would avoid this problem but double the price. I have not contacted Revain or the manufacturer for a refund.
