Torn on first gentle wash and dry

So I was very happy that it matched my color scheme. As soon as I received it, I washed it in cold water on a gentle cycle. I tumble dried it on low. When I unfolded it, I found: a) it's too small for my king-size California comforter; b) there was a large hole in the seam of one of the corners; c) it's too big for my standard royal quilt. Actual measurements for this fall somewhere between a standard king and a California king. Okay, ok, I can work with size differences, but sewing a new piece on before first use is ridiculous.
