This is Not a Toaster

My wife's review - two stars as a sliced bread toaster: It's not a toaster oven. It's an oven, and it does a lot of things but the one thing it does not do is make toast. It's a convection oven, which dries the bread out rather than actually toasting it. The bread looks brown and crisp on one side, pale on the other. The worst part is, the bread is dried out and hard as a brick and tastes like stale bread that's been sitting around for weeks. This oven literally removes all flavor from the bread and makes it taste like cardboard. So if you want a convection oven? This is fine, but don't buy it expecting you'll get a toaster oven, because that's not what this is.She's right in that it is not a toaster, it's and air fryer/convection oven. However, I find it toasts bread just fine given the right settings, texture and taste, but with more work involved. There's no preset and you have to modify an existing preset and flip the toast midway if you mind that the top will toast more than the bottom. If you toast a lot of sliced bread you'll want a dedicated pop up toaster with slots. If they provided a wire rack, toasting sliced bread would probably be more even compared to the slotted pans that come with the oven. I'd be happy to buy a wire rack as an extra accessory. Modifying a preset involves plus/minus time/temperature buttons with one step per button press or holding to increase/decrease quickly. This makes modifying a preset harder than it needs to be. But the main thing I do not like about the controls is that should you modify a preset, the new setting does not stick. Next time it reverts back to the original default. I would much rather see temperature and time settings such as 400, 350, 300 for temperature and similar steps for time, or add stepped adjustments such as 5, 10, 15 to the existing controls. The manual is another topic. Let's say it needs work. One thing, it says to preheat the oven tap the Preheat Button — suggesting there is a labeled button. Instead when you turn on the oven it defaults to a preheat preset of 370 for 15 min. If you press the power button again before choosing a preset, the oven preheats for the default or other setting. Not hard to figure that out but the manual could say that.
