Bought this for my daughter to use in her dorm room. Campus police said laptop theft from unlocked or open dormitories is one of the most common crimes on campus because students often assume nothing will happen if they rush to a friend's bathroom or room "just for a minute." . However, that won't stop a determined thief from breaking off part of the laptop to steal it. We haven't needed a K-Slot adapter for Macs and Ultrabooks, so I can't comment on that from experience, but it's basically a glued round piece to 'add' a K-Slot onto the cover of the device. A determined thief can break that, too. Both cables and adapters are not trouble-free, but deter quick theft.
